Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is excited that you are interested in learning more about baptism.  The Lutheran Church baptizes people of all ages, and baptism is a gift from God that welcomes people in the church.  Please take a moment to watch this video from Lutheran Hour Ministries to learn more about baptism.

Baptism for Infants and Children

Since baptism is a gift from God, the Lutheran Church baptizes infants and young children.  In baptism, God is making a promise to a person that their sins are forgiveness and that faith is created through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  Baptism for infants and young children is done by sprinkling water on the forehead. In bringing a child to be baptized, a family is committing to raising the child in the Christian faith.  Holy Trinity helps with the journey and provides children’s ministry, 1st Communion training (5th grade), and Confirmation Christian Education classes (6th, 7th, 8th grades).

If a family desires for their child to be baptized they will need to watch the video from Lutheran Hour Ministries listed above.  Then they will need to connect with Pastor Dan for a brief meeting to answer any questions about baptism, and also to schedule the date for the baptism. Baptisms for young children and infants are performed during our 10:30 am worship on Sunday morning.

Baptism for Adults

When an adult comes to be baptized, the Holy Spirit has been working to lead a person to this exciting moment in time.  It is a joyful time when the adult will realize the benefit of the forgiveness of sins, the creation of faith, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit welcoming the person into the church.  Baptisms for adults are done by sprinkling water on the forehead or by immersion. This moment in time is a marker in one’s life when one can look back and remember the promise of Jesus, “Behold, I am with you to the end of the age.”

If an adult desires to be baptized, the individual will need to watch the video above from Lutheran Hour Ministries.  Then the person will need to connect with Pastor Dan for a brief meeting to answer any questions about baptism, and also talk about the next steps of communion and adult confirmation.  Baptisms for adults are performed on Sunday morning or another day of the week depending on the decision of the adult.  Also, if someone desires to be baptized by immersion the baptism will need to be done at another location (i.e. pool or body of water).
